KC Royals 10 Baltimore 7
The Royals countered a Baltimore barrage in the middle
innings with a seven run sixth to come from behind and beat
the O's last night at Camden Yards. After jumping to a 3-0
lead, Kyle Davies gave it right back as the Orioles scored
five in the fourth and led off the fifth with a two run homer by Aubrey Huff, his second of the game. That finished
Davies but also finished the Oriole offense as three Royals
relievers allowed just one hit the rest of the way. Kansas
City then put together their big inning, keyed by a leadoff
walk and an error by first baseman Kevin Millar which allowed the first run to score. Ross Gload, David DeJesus
and Mark Grudzielanek followed with RBI singles, then Alex
Gordon gave the Royals the lead for good with a sacrifice
fly. Jose Guillen added a two run single to cap the Royals'
biggest inning in over a year. Joel Peralta picked up the
win and Joakim Soria got his 23rd save. Adam Loewen took the loss in relief for the O's. Grudzielanek had four hits
for Kansas City while Guillen had three RBIs. Billy Butler
and Tony Pena Jr. had solo homers as well. The Royals now
head for the Trop to face the red hot - and first place -
Tampa Bay Rays for the first time this season. It's the
opener of a four game series as Brian Bannister pitches
against Edwin Jackson. 580 WIBW has the broadcast at 3:35
in a late afternoon Independence Day start.
