#2 Ichabods Finish 2024 With Perfect Record
The Washburn Ichabods men’s basketball team has risen to its highest national ranking in 12 years, and in their final game of 2024, they showed why.
Four Ichabods scored in double figures as Washburn led from start to finish in a 70-52 win over Central Missouri in Warrensburg on Saturday afternoon. The win moved Washburn to 12-0 on the season and 3-0 in MIAA play before the holiday break.
Brayden Shorter led all scorers with 17 points on the afternoon, including four three-pointers as his torrid shooting streak continued. Andrew Orr added 16 points, while Jacob Hanna chipped in 15 and Jack Bachelor scored 13.
Washburn scored the first seven points of the game and raced out to a 30-12 first half lead, making six of their first eight three pointers. They would carry a 36-23 lead into halftime, and never let the Mules get within single digits in the second half, pushing their advantage as large as 23 points before both teams cleared their benches in the final two minutes.
The Ichabods are off to their best start since a 16-0 stretch began the 2003-2004 season, a year that saw Washburn win the MIAA regular season championship. Their 3-0 league record has them alone in first place in the league for the holiday break. They are back in action on January 4, 2025, when they visit Emporia State.
