580 Preps Recap – Games/Events of 12-7-19


Hayden competed in Wamego at the Raider Classic, with twelve wrestlers competing. Will Devader started his season in style with a first-place finish at 182 pounds. The Wildcats placed 11th out of 14 teams.

Highland Park, Topeka High, and Topeka West went to Eskridge for the Mission Valley Invitational. The Trojans had the best team showing, placing third overall. They were led by Matthew Cutshall’s first place finish at 152 pounds. Caeman Blake was second at 160 and Colson McIntyre was second at 106. Topeka West sent 14 wrestlers to the event and placed tenth as a team. Three wrestlers competed for the Scots, with Javier Osorio taking third at 120 pounds.

Seaman competed at the Riley County Duals and went 3-2 on the day, beating Larned, Smoky Valley and Riley County and losing to Andover and Clay Center. Landon Willard (152), Dylan Williams (160) and Baily Meredith (170) were all 5-0 on the day for the Vikings.

Shawnee Heights placed first as a team at the Kan-Okla Classic at Caney Valley. Three Thunderbirds brought home first-place medals: Brock Ferguson at 113 pounds, Caden Walker at 145, and Zack Gonzalez at 160. Cole Parish, Joey Hilton, Bryce Yeagley and Dawson Campbell were runners-up at 132, 138, 195 and 285, respectively.

Washburn Rural went east to the Leavenworth Challenge and were outstanding, placing second as a team. Standing atop the podium at the end of the day were Jacob Tangpricha at 103 pounds, Austin Fager at 152 pounds, Gavin Carter at 195 pounds and David Huckstep at 285 pounds. Bishop Murray (113), Cole Wells (160) and Isaiah Bailey (182) were second-place finishers.


Washburn Rural’s girls had an excellent showing at the Leavenworth Challenge. Jaiden Taggert and Addison Broxterman were 1-2 at 116 pounds, and Alaya Whitehead was tops at 123, and Rebekah Smith at 170 placed first as well. Samantha Houser won both of her matches at 130, as did Amelia Sayers at 143, Hailey Robinett at 155, Jailah Johnson at 191 and Dajia Anderson at 235.


Seaman, Shawnee Heights, and Topeka West competed at the Lansing Invitational. Results were not available.
