Accident results in SW Topeka Boulevard closure Tuesday afternoon and evening

A Tuesday afternoon accident closed SW Topeka Boulevard not far south of the Frito Lay plant for an extended period.
According to the Shawnee County Sheriff, just after 3:30 p.m., a Pam Transport semi was southbound on Topeka Boulevard and began to turn west on SW 49th, but had to drive into the north ditch to miss an eastbound vehicle.
The rear corner of the trailer clipped a utility pole on the north side of SW 49th. That caused a line to hang low across Topeka Boulevard.
A second semi, this one operated by Crete Carrier Corporation headed south on Topeka Boulevard followed the traffic ahead and turned east on 49th to drive down the frontage road on the east side. This semi caught the low hanging utility line and damaged that trailer and two other utility poles.
No one was hurt and no tickets were given. Both drivers were buckled up. The road was back open by 8 p.m.
