This week’s Azura Credit Union Athletes of the Week are Topeka West junior basketball player Tre Alexander and Shawnee Heights senior basketball player Alie Fulks.
Alexander helped the Chargers get off to a 1-0 start with a 19-point performance in West’s 74-69 win over Highland Park last Friday. Alexander was a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line, including making all eight of his attempts in the final quarter as the Chargers held off the Scots’ comeback. A returning starter, Alexander is a combo guard for the Chargers who can both pass and score effectively. We spoke to Tre about the atmosphere at the season’s first game, his basketball influences, how good the Chargers can be this season, and more.
Fulks was key in a pair of Shawnee Heights victories last week, as they defeated Highland Park and Ottawa to move to 2-1 on the season. Fulks’ 15 points were a game high total in Friday night’s 44-32 win over the Lady Cyclones. A returning starter at guard, Fulks was a first-team All-United Kansas Conference selection as a junior and was also second-team All-City. We spoke to Alie about her growth as a player, becoming a team leader, her college choice, and more.
