Changes coming to Topeka Public Schools’ preschool enrollment process

Parents of preschool-aged children within USD 501 will notice a few changes in the enrollment process this year.

“We have created a new process for preschool registration this year, allowing for families to be screened directly into programs and visit with program staff all at one time,” said Topeka Public Schools’ Director of Communications Misty Kruger. “We feel this is a more efficient way to allow our families to get their children registered. So, we encourage any family within the TPS boundaries with a child who will be 3 or 4 years old by August 31, to visit one of our enrollment events to help get their scholar kindergarten ready ”

Parents will need to enroll their children at the Quinton Heights Education Center at 2331 SW Topeka Blvd. on selected dates between April 25, 2019 – July 18, 2019. At that time, parents can meet with educators or the people in charge of preschool programs to ask questions and to discuss everything that is needed for the enrollment process.

“They go over everything that they need right there,” said Kruger.  “There’s not a waiting process. There’s not a back and forth trying to get their paperwork completed.”

During four of these enrollment dates, a dental screening will be available for incoming students.

“We have partnered with GraceMed (Health Clinic), who is our dental provider across the district”, said Kruger.  “They will be on hand at several of the upcoming ones – April 25, May 30, June 27, and July 18, so the kids can get their dental screenings done while they are at the event.”
