Early Wednesday accident in Silver Lake injures one

An early Wednesday morning accident in Silver Lake on Highway 24 sent one person to the hospital.

According to a release from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, a man was in the parking lot of Wehners Thriftway when officers responded just before 12:30 a.m.

He told the officer the accident happened across the street in the Moore Tire Center parking lot. The driver was westbound on Highway 24 heading in to Silver Lake when he did not judge the curve correctly at Highway 24 and Center Street. The Ford Focus hit five parked cars in the Moore Tire Center lot, doing significant damage to four of them.

The white Focus flipped over the vehicles that it struck and landed on its side in the parking lot.

The driver was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. Alcohol could be a factor in the accident.
