EasterFest returns to Topeka tomorrow

The 6th annual EasterFest event is coming up tomorrow, Saturday, April 20th, in Topeka. At 10 a.m., there will be a parade in the NOTO Arts and Entertainment District, on North Kansas Avenue, that will begin at the railroad tracks and will proceed further north, past Garfield Park.  In addition to a number of floats, in all shapes and sizes, the parade will also consist of entries from schools, military groups, marching bands, costumed characters and more.

“What better time than Easter to celebrate and have a parade?” said Lee Hartman, chief organizer for EasterFest. “The interest has increased each year and over 80 vendors are now involved. Over three thousand people attended last year to watch the parade, visit the Fun Fair, listen to live music, take part in the Big Egg Hunt and visit the Vendor Market and Health Fair.”

Following the parade, attendees can participate in a number of family-friendly events at Garfield Park, including the “Big Egg Hunt”, which is one of EasterFest’s hallmark events.

“Each year, dozens of churches, businesses, and non-profit organizations take part in the parade and fun fair,” said Kevin Dole, a member of C5, the Capital City Christian Chamber of Commerce, which hosts the event. “First Southern Baptist Church hides over 4000 eggs for the Big Egg Hunt, and we also give away 4 bicycles at the Ball Toss sponsored by The Pad.”

The event, which concludes at 3 p.m., will also feature live entertainment, kids’ games & activities, crafts, pony rides, inflatables, and a petting zoo.

“We’re expecting an even bigger turnout than last year,” said Drew Walker, one of the organizers of the event. “It just keeps growing every year and we expect that to continue.”
