Today, former Governor Jeff Colyer called on Jake LaTurner to seek the Republican nomination for the 2nd Congressional District of Kansas.

“The citizens of the 2nd Congressional District are solid, conservative folks who deserve to be represented by a Republican that shares their values. I’m calling on Jake LaTurner to end his campaign for the United States Senate and instead seek the Republican nomination for the United States House in the Second Congressional to ensure we keep the seat in Republican hands.” said Gov. Colyer.

He continued: “Despite the fact that President Trump carried the 2nd Congressional District 56% – 37%, a 19 point margin, the current Representative squeaked by with a 2 point victory in 2018. The first eight months of his time in Congress have seen poor fundraising and a lack of coalition building.”

“Nancy Pelosi’s Democrats are going to throw everything they have at the 2nd District and it’s important that Republicans nominate a candidate that can win.”

“The fact is we have too many candidates in the Senate race and a need for an improved candidate in the Second District. This would help our state in two ways—by giving us a viable conservative option in the Second District and helping to clear the logjam in the Senate race.”

A native of Southeast Kansas and current resident of Topeka, Jake LaTurner is a lifelong resident of the 2nd Congressional District and serves as Kansas State Treasurer. The latest finance reports indicate he would start the House race with nearly $470,000 cash on hand, significantly more than the incumbent member of Congress.
