Former Marshall County clerk sentenced for stealing public funds

A former Marshall County clerk accused of stealing of public funds has been sentenced to more than two years in prison, the Kansas attorney general’s office said Monday.

Sonya L. Stohs, 44, of Marysville, pleaded guilty in November in Marshall County District Court to one count of felony misuse of public funds.

District Judge John L. Weingart sentenced her on Monday to serve 32 months in prison and ordered her to pay more than $372,000 in restitution to the county as well as pay other investigative and court costs.

An investigation found that between May 2013 and April 2019, Strohs used county funds to pay for various personal items, the attorney general’s office said in a news release.
