Gary Woodland Wins the 119th US Open Championship
Congratulations to the 119th US Open Champion from Topeka, Kansas, Gary Woodland.
Those were the words that the USGA uttered when handing the trophy to Gary Woodland.
The former Shawnee Height T-Bird, Ichabod and Jayhawk was the best golfer at the 119th US Open at famed Pebble Beach Golf Club.
Woodland earned his first major win on Father’s day as he bested the field by three strokes on Sunday.
Woodland had been zero for seven when he led a PGA tournament after 54 holes. This time he was cool, calm and collected to the tune of a two under par 69.
Gary shot 68-65-69-69 to hold off the number one player in the world, Brooks Koepka.
How good was Woodland’s effort? Koepka is the first player to shoot in the 60s all four rounds at the US Open to not win the title.
He ended the tournament on a birdie by rolling in a long birdie putt.
What type of company does Woodland join? Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Tom Kite and Tiger Woods have won the US Open at Pebble Beach.
