Kansas doesn’t have a lot of baby infrastructure, survey says

The personal finance website Wallethub has released its list of 2019’s Best & Worst States to Have a Baby and Kansas is not high on the list.

“Kansas could have done a little better,” said Jill Gonzalez, an analyst with the website. “It ranked 34th overall. It could improve particularly when it comes to costs associated with having a baby and overall baby-friendliness.”

Kansas struggled in virtually all areas measured by Wallethub.

“We look at costs, like conventional delivery charges, Cesearean delivery charges, annual cost of early childhood care,” said Gonzalez. “We also look at health, just in terms of low birth weights, preterm births, pediatricians per capita.”

If you choose to have a baby, it may be tough to find a place for them to be while you work.

“Kansas has the fourth-fewest child care centers per capita,” said Gonzalez. “Obviously, not the best news there. Because there are so few, that also drives up costs for them.”

Kansas is also in the bottom five in midwives and OB-GYNs per capita.
