State and Marshall County officials are working together to investigate the death of a man after an explosion and fire at his northeast Kansas home.

Emergency responders found the body of Donald McLaughlin, 83, after the explosion and fire at his home in Vermillion on January 24th.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the State Fire Marshall and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the death, the KBI announced Tuesday.
The investigation began after an autopsy was performed.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office asked the KBI for assistance on Friday after finding McLaughlin’s death suspicious.

Authorities do not believe there is a threat to the public from this incident. No further information was released.
