Four teams from the capital city are headed to state in basketball, as brackets were released Sunday morning by the Kansas High School Activities Association.

Topeka will be well represented in Wichita at the class 6A tournament. Both Washburn Rural’s girls and boys are state qualifiers. The Lady Junior Blues are back after finishing third last season. The Rural boys are back to state for the first time since 2011. Topeka High’s Lady Trojans are also state bound, making the tournament for the first time since 2002.

The Seaman Lady Vikes are also heading to state. They’ll play in the 5A tournament in Emporia.

Other qualifiers from the Northeast Kansas area include Lawrence and Free State’s boys in class 6A; Royal Valley’s girls, Nemaha Central’s girls and Perry-Lecompton’s boys in 3A; and Wabaunsee’s girls, Jackson Heights’ girls, Mission Valley’s boys, Bishop Seabury’s boys, and McLouth’s boys in class 2A.
