A Lawrence police officer had to be taken to the hospital after an arrest early Tuesday morning.

Officers responded around 12:45 a.m. to the intersection of West 6th Street and Wakarusa Drive regarding a single motor vehicle accident involving a white Chevrolet Silverado that struck a pole.

Officers were told while they were on the way that 22-year-old Shane A. Paslay moved the Silverado to a nearby parking lot and entered the business.

Officers found Paslay and attempted to arrest him for suspicion of DUI. Paslay ran north on foot. When the officer caught him, Paslay continued to fight the officer and the officer fell on his baton. Another officer caught Paslay and arrested him.

Paslay was booked into the Douglas County Jail for charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, interference with the duties of a law enforcement officer, driving under the influence, and operating a vehicle in violation of ignition interlock device.

The injured officer is still in the hospital.
