Kansas First District Congressman Dr. Roger Marshall is running as a Republican for the United States Senate seat currently held by Pat Roberts. There are some Republicans who have said Marshall isn’t conservative enough.

“I have a 98% voting record with President Trump,” said Marshall. “I’m just wondering which votes they are criticizing me on at this point. The only votes that I voted against the President were on budget issues, major issues like that. I’m not sure what conservative means. I’m not a politician. I’m a Kansan. I’m a pragmatic Kansan who is going to fight for Kansans. I’m going to stand beside the President.”

Marshall is not concerned about the prospect of a candidacy from U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

“Secretary Pompeo and I are great friends,” said Marshall. “We communicate with his staff real regularly. I don’t anticipate that happening. We’re going to be going full speed ahead.”

At this point, Marshall sees this as a race between him and former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach in the primary.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” said Marshall. “There’s only two people polling above 2% right now. I think it’s a two-horse race until proven otherwise.”

Kansas Senate President Susan Wagle, conservative pundit Brian Pruitt and former Kansas City Chiefs player Dave Lindstrom are also in on the Republican side officially. State Treasurer Jake LaTurner switched races to run for the Second District seat in Congress this past week.
