New Undersheriff Ceremony Friday in Shawnee County

A ceremony will be held Friday for the new Undersheriff in Shawnee County.
Undersheriff Jay Simecka began his career with the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office in 1994. Over his 25 year career he has served in a variety of Deputy and supervisory roles throughout the agency. Since 2015 he has overseen the daily operations as the Major as well as serving as the SWAT Team Officer-in-Charge since 2014.
Undersheriff Simecka has over 20 years of military service. He served 8 years in the United States Marine Corps serving during Operation Desert Shield. He currently serves as a Major in the Kansas Army National Guard serving in Operation Spartan Shield and Operation Inherent Resolve.
Undersheriff Simecka holds a Certified Public Manager Certificate from the University of Kansas, a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Washburn University and a Master’s degree in Education from University of Saint Mary.
The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Friday in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office, located at 320 S. Kansas.
