NFL Super Wild Card Weekend matchups set

The NFL regular season came to a close on Sunday, and that means the postseason begins this coming weekend.

Six playoff games will kick off this year’s playoff action on Super Wild Card Weekend, with two games on Saturday, Jan. 11, a tripleheader on Sunday and one final opening-round game on Monday night.

The top seed in the AFC is the two-time reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. They finished 15-2 in the regular season and have earned a first-round bye for the fifth time in the Patrick Mahomes era.

Every other division winner gets a home game on Super Wild Card Weekend, including the No. 2 seed, the Buffalo Bills, who will host the seventh seed, the Denver Broncos. Both of those teams own a win over the Chiefs this season, including Denver’s 38-0 shutout victory in Week 18. The Baltimore Ravens are the No. 3 seed and will host their arch rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, while the fourth-seeded Houston Texans will take on the fifth-seeded Los Angeles Chargers.

In the NFC, the Detroit Lions earned the top seed and first-round bye after beating the Minnesota Vikings in the final game of the regular season on Sunday Night Football. This is the first time in Lions history that they have been the top seed in the postseason/This is the first time since 1998 that the Vikings own the top seed.

The Vikings, despite winning 14 games this year, are the first wild card and will play on the road against the No. 4 seed Los Angeles Rams this weekend. The Philadelphia Eagles are the No. 2 seed in the NFC and will host the Green Bay Packers in a Week 1 rematch, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will host the Washington Commanders in the 3 versus 6 matchup.
