Night, weekend work to begin on I-470 July 8

Several ramps will be closed as part of night and weekend work on I-470 in Topeka that will begin on Monday, July 8, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

I-470 will be reduced to one lane from Gage Boulevard to Wanamaker Road with the speed limit reduced to 55 mph to allow for overlay work to take place.

In conjunction with this, the westbound I-470 on and off ramps for Gage, Fairlawn Road, 29th Street, 21st Street, Wanamaker and Huntoon Street will be closed to traffic intermittently. The closures will be each weekday night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and then for the weekend from 7 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday.

The work is scheduled to take six weeks, weather permitting.

A reminder that the eastbound I-470 ramp at 29th Street is closed until the end of August as part of the pavement widening project taking place at 29th and Fairlawn.

Motorists are encouraged to use extra caution in the work zone areas.
