Royals Reunite With RHP Lorenzen
The Kansas City Royals have reportedly agreed to terms on a contract with veteran right handed pitcher Michael Lorenzen, who finished the 2024 season in Royals blue.
The contract has been reported as a one-year, $5.5 million deal with a $1.5 million buyout on a mutual option for 2026, making the total guarantee $7 million.
Lorenzen made 19 appearances (18 starts) for the Texas Rangers last season before being acquired by the Royals in a trade on July 29. With Kansas City, he pitched in seven games, starting six, and won both his decisions, posting a 1.57 ERA in 28.2 innings. A hamstring injury suffered in late August limited Lorenzen to just two appearances in September, but he pitched in two games in the Royals’ four-game ALDS loss to the Yankees. For the season, Lorenzen went 7-6 with a 3.31 ERA, pitching 130.1 innings and striking out 97 batters.
The 33-year old Lorenzen is a 10-year veteran, having pitched for the Reds, Angels, Tigers and Phillies in addition to his cameos with the Rangers and Royals last season. He has appeared in 368 games, starting 93 of them, and has a 47-44 career record and a 3.99 ERA.
