Silver Alert canceled for Oregon octogenarian last seen in Lawrence

A Silver Alert has been issued for an Oregon man last seen in Lawrence.

Eighty-one-year-old John Gaither Ranney was recently diagnosed with dementia. He was last seen leaving a residence Thursday morning in the 3900 block of Overland Drive in Lawrence in a white 1999 Ford Ranger truck with Kansas license plate 370 HBH.

The truck has a camouflage Kansas University vanity plate affixed to the front bumper of the truck. The white Ford Ranger was last seen traveling out of the Lawrence city limits west from West 6th Street and George Williams Way around 1:40 Thursday afternoon.

Ranney is a Salem, Oregon native, but it is not known if he is trying to head that direction. He is a white male, approximately 5’10” tall, 205 lbs, brown eyes, gray hair, with a trimmed gray beard and eyeglasses. If you see him, call local law enforcement.
