Sunday evening UTV accident sends one to hospital

A Sunday evening accident sent a woman to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse, around 8 p.m. the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting an accident involving a UTV.

The accident happened about 3/4 of a mile south of 222nd on U Road. A woman from Denison was southbound on U Road in a Polaris UTV and approached a low water crossing where some children were fishing.

The victim’s dog left the vehicle and the driver went after the dog. The UTV started to roll. The victim tried to stop the UTV and it went off the concrete crossing and into the water and trapped the woman underneath it.

The kids tried to help and some neighbors worked with them and got her out of the water, but she was airlifted from the scene for treatment.
