Suspect in Lawrence shooting awaiting extradition

A Kansas man who police say is connected with a Lawrence shooting is awaiting extradition.

Lawrence Police have identified 27-year-old Howard Levite of Leavenworth County as a suspect in the October 26 shooting at the McDonald’s at 1309 W. 6th Street in Lawrence. Levite was arrested early Friday morning in Jackson County, Missouri on unrelated charges.

He is being held in Jackson County pending an extradition hearing.

Just before 6:30 p.m. on October 26, officers from the Lawrence Police Department were called to the McDonalds at 1309 W. 6th St. in response to a shooting that had just occurred. Upon arriving, officers discovered a 50-year-old male who had been shot in his car.

This individual was treated at the scene and transported to an area hospital with significant injuries. As of Wednesday, he is out of the hospital and recovering.

Levite faces charges of attempted aggravated robbery and aggravated battery.
