A stabbing took place Sunday night in Cherokee County.

According to a release from the Cherokee County Sheriff, deputies and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to a rural Riverton area just after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday night, after a man had received non-life-threatening injuries during an altercation which resulted in him being stabbed. The man was transported to a Joplin hospital and later released.

Following that incident, detectives sought and obtained a search warrant for the residence at 502 West 14th Street in Baxter Springs.

Methamphetamine, along with items consistent with the distribution of illegal drugs, were located and seized during the execution of the warrant.

Fifty-four-year-old James Martin Jr. was arrested at the home and transported to the Cherokee County Jail on allegations of Aggravated Battery. He is being held in lieu of $15,000.00 bond.

Also arrested was 68-year-old Deeta Olds. She is being held in the Cherokee County Jail on allegations of Possessing Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute within 1,000 feet of a School, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Her bond has been set at $57,000.00.
