Topeka police began investigating a robbery Wednesday night and ended up in hot pursuit of two people that they then arrested.

Police were called just after 7:00 p.m. to the 1100 block of SE Gilmore on a report of a robbery to an individual.

The victim told the cops that two black men approached her and pointed a gun at her and forced her out of her vehicle.

A second robbery was reported less than a half-hour later at 6th and SE Golden. That victim was leaving the Family Dollar when a black man approached her with a gun and demanded her keys. She dropped them on the ground and ran back into the store. That suspect began driving off northbound on Golden.

Officers responding to the store saw the vehicle and tried to stop it. The driver sped away and abandoned the vehicle in the 400 block of NE Freeman in the east alley.

Nineteen-year-old Chauncy E. Lyles and 22-year-old Mathdaniel Squirrel were arrested. Squirrel is in jail for Aggravated Robbery and Felony Fleeing and Eluding. Lyles is behind bars for Aggravated Robbery, Felony Fleeing and Eluding, Possession Of stolen property and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

In just a month, Topeka Police have already arrested 11 people on Felon in Possession of a Firearm charges.
