Two men are in custody after a short vehicle pursuit near NW 24 Hwy and Rochester Road.

On Sunday at approximately 11:20pm, a Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a pickup truck near NW 24 Hwy and Rochester Road.  The pickup truck pulled into a parking lot and failed to yield.  The Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center advised that the tag on the vehicle was not valid.  The vehicle drove back onto Rochester road and fled to the north.

A pursuit was initiated and lasted approximately two minutes.  The pursuit ended when the pickup truck pulled
into a driveway on NW Wilder Road.

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as David W. Brooks, 54, of Topeka, and arrested for the traffic charges and possession of methamphetamine and drug  paraphernalia.  The passenger was identified as Tommy L. Sherrill, 50, of Topeka, and was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.  A handgun was located in a yard near 600 NW Menninger and was believed to have been thrown from the pickup truck during the pursuit.  The total amount of methamphetamine taken from the pickup truck was over 8 grams.
