Wendy’s and 580 WIBW are proud to celebrate standout achievements in prep sports in the city of Topeka by naming our Athletes of the Week each week.

This week, we recognize Hayden sophomore swimmer Hudson Ramirez and Highland Park junior basketball player Ariyana Grassity.

Ramirez goes into the city swim meet this week on a high note after he took first place in the 200 freestyle and second place in the 100 butterfly at the Osawatomie Invite last week. His time in the 200 free was a personal best, and it was only his second time swimming the 100 fly. His individual success helped Hayden finish second as a team at the event.

Grassity helped the Lady Scots finish third at their mid-season tournament in Colby last weekend. She made the game-winning basket in their opening round win over Pine Creek (CO) and then poured in 26 points in their win in the third-place game over Scott City. Grassity is averaging 16.4 points per game, which is third-best in the city, for the Lady Scots, who are 9-5 on the season. We talked to Ariyana about making a buzzer-beater, her team coming together through adversity, her dream three-on-three teammates, and more.
