Wendy’s High School Athlete Of The Week – Week Of 1/28/19
Wendy’s and 580 WIBW are proud to celebrate standout achievements in prep sports in the city of Topeka by naming our Athletes of the Week each week.
This week, we recognize Seaman senior swimmer Josh Florence and Topeka West junior bowler Ashley Wilson.
Florence helped the Vikings capture their fourth straight city championship last Thursday as they narrowly edged Washburn Rural for the crown. Florence earned two first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle and was part of two first-place relay efforts in the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle. A member of last year’s state championship team, Florence is committed to swim at South Dakota State. We spoke to Josh about defending the city title again, being teammates with his younger brother, his future career plans, and more.

Wilson led the Lady Chargers to victory at the Bishop Miege invitational last Saturday. She bowled a 234 in her first game, the best by any bowler on the day, and finished with a 570 series to also take home first place individually. Wilson was part of a Lady Charger team that took third at state last year. We spoke to Ashley about how she took up bowling, her hobbies away from the lanes, and more.
