Wichita well below average in WalletHub recreation survey

The personal finance website WalletHub has released its best and worst cities for recreation list.
“When talking about recreation, we looked at about fifty different metrics that speak to the benefits of recreational activity,” said analyst Jill Gonzalez. “Basic living costs, the quality of parks, the accessibility of entertainment and recreational facilities and the weather.”
Though the survey only hit the top 100 cities in the country, there are a couple of results of interest.
“Kansas City just did above average,” said Gonzalez. “It ranked 49th overall. It did especially good when it comes to costs for recreational activities. Wichita could use some improvement. It ranked 83rd overall. It still did well when it comes to costs, but it ranked toward the bottom when it comes to the types of facilities that are available, how many there are, and weather.”
Drilling down a little, the weather measure takes in a lot of factors.
“We look at how many degree days are off from what’s the ideal,” said Gonzalez. “We look at extreme weather, chance of hail, chance of tornado, chance of wind, we look at the sky conditions as well, cloudy versus sunny days and temperature and humidity.”
