Youngblood Named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the week.

Football student-athletes from Baylor, Iowa State, K-State and Oklahoma State collected honors for their accomplishments in Week 13.

Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy was tabbed Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Baylor defensive tackle James Lynch earned Defensive Player of the Week. K-State kick returner Joshua Youngblood was named Special Teams Player of the Week and Oklahoma State quarterback Dru Brown collected Newcomer of the Week recognition. A five-person media panel selects the honorees.

Purdy was responsible for five TDs, four through the air and one by rush, in the victory over Kansas. The sophomore threw for 372 yards on 29-of-42 passing. With Iowa State trailing by three in the fourth quarter, Purdy completed a perfect 10-for-10 on passes for 135 yards, connecting on a pair of TD passes and rushing for another to give the Cyclones a 41-31 win.

Lynch registered 2.0 sacks, 2.0 tackles-for-loss, a pass breakup and a QB hurry in the Bears’ win over Texas. The junior’s two sacks marked his fourth multi-sack performance of the season. Additionally, Lynch established a Baylor career record with 19.0 sacks, surpassing the previous benchmark of 17.5.

After Texas Tech narrowed the Wildcats’ lead to 13-10 in third quarter, Youngblood returned the ensuing kick-off 100 yards for his second kick return score of the season. The freshman is just one of three players nationally to have multiple kick return scores this season versus FBS opponents, while his two return scores are the most by a K-State freshman since 2011.

In his first career start for the Cowboys, Brown led Oklahoma State to a seven-point road win at West Virginia. He finished 22-of-29 passing (75.9%) for 196 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions. The graduate transfer completed 10 of his first 11 pass attempts to open the game, as well as seven of his last eight to close the game.

The weekly award is the second for Purdy this season. Brown, Lynch and Youngblood are first-time honorees.
