580 Preps Recap – Games/Events of 9-17-19

GIRLS GOLF

A host of local teams took part in the Hayden Invitational at Shawnee Country Club. Seaman came through in first place with a team score of 185 in the nine-hole event. Lois Deeter’s 39 was the best individual score of the day, and teammates Molly McLaughlin and Molly Biggs shot 47 and 48 respectively to finish in the top 10.

Shawnee Heights placed second among the nine teams with a team tally of 194. Rebecca Donaldson shot a 46 and Makaila Astle fired a 48.

The host Lady Wildcats shot a team score of 201, with Haley Karolevitz carding a 47 and Jensen Heideman shooting a 48 to finish in the top ten. Washburn Rural also carded a 201 team score, tying them with Hayden for fourth. Ariahna Luarks fired a 47 to lead the Junior Blues.

GIRLS TENNIS

Seaman enjoyed a winning performance at the Spring Hill Invitational:

Washburn Rural placed second at the Manhattan quad, with their players accumulating nine victories on the day.

BOYS SOCCER

Topeka High doubled up Topeka West 4-2 in a Centennial League and city rivalry game. Ethan Payne and Ernesto Garcia-Retana both found the back of the net twice for the Trojans. James Schneider had a goal and an assist for Topeka West and Elmer Rodriguez also tallied for the Chargers.

In other Centennial League action, Emporia defeated Hayden 5-2 and Seaman routed Junction City 10-1.

In non-league action, Shawnee Heights fell to Lawrence in a close one, 2-1, and Erich Durst’s brace wasn’t enough as Washburn Rural dropped a road contest to Blue Valley North:

VOLLEYBALL

Washburn Rural hosted Topeka West and Junction City in a Centennial League triangular, with Topeka West going 1-1:

Washburn Rural went 2-0 on the day, beating Junction City 25-9. 25-9 and topping the Chargers 25-10, 25-10.

Hayden hosted Wamego and Silver Lake in a triangular. Silver Lake lost to the hosts and beat Wamego. The Hayden-Wamego match result is unknown.

Shawnee Heights visited Turner in United Kansas Conference action last night as well, with the T-Birds sweeping the Golden Bears 25-12. 25-8, 25-10.
