580 Preps Week Three 2019 Helmet Stickers

It’s time to look back at a wild and high-scoring third week of high school football action in the city and reward the top performers with helmet stickers:

DESMOND PURNELL, Hayden – The junior is becoming a star for the 3-0 Wildcats, as for the second straight week he made impact plays on both sides of the ball. His interception in the red zone halted Washburn Rural’s opening drive and he would score the first touchdown of the game three plays later on a 27 yard run. Purnell later took a swing pass 80 yards for a touchdown as Hayden routed the Junior Blues 41-7 for their first win in the rivalry since 2014.

DIEGO CARR, Hayden – The Wildcats are scary deep in the backfield, as evidenced by the backup fullback being the offensive star of the night. Carr starts alongside Will DeVader at linebacker, and spells him at fullback. He took full advantage of his offensive opportunities on Friday, rushing for a pair of touchdowns and 89 yards on just four carries.

DRAKE McCALL, Washburn Rural – It was a tough night for the Junior Blues, but McCall still stood out on defense with a handful of tackles for loss and a strip sack.

KY THOMAS, Topeka High – Five carries, five touchdowns. Light work for the Trojan star, who gained 144 yards on his runs to paydirt and called it a night early in their 60-8 win over Highland Park.

REID COWAN, Seaman – The Vikings ran out of steam in the second half in their upset bid at Manhattan, but Cowan had himself a big night as he settles in as the team’s starting quarterback. Cowan threw for 191 yards on 12-for-19 passing with a touchdown, and also returned an interception for a score on defense.

HUNTER WOHLER, Shawnee Heights – The T-Birds quarterback rushed for three touchdowns in their last-minute loss at Schlagle.
