Wind chills will be dangerous, meteorologist says

The National Weather Service is advising that wind chills across the state will drop to dangerous levels Tuesday night into Wednesday. A Wind Chill Advisory goes into effect Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m.

“When you do have wind chills at 15 to 25 below zero, it doesn’t take long to receive frostbite,” said meteorologist Dan Holiday.

The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

“It will be mainly late tonight into the overnight hours and early tomorrow morning,” said Holiday. “That’s when we’re concerned about it. I think most of the day tomorrow is going to be very cold, because we’re talking about temperatures mainly in the teens at the most in northern Kansas.”

The temperatures will then stay in the teens or just below that on Wednesday before recovering to above freezing Thursday.
