Preseason Wrestling Rankings Released by KWCA

With the winter prep sports season just around the corner, the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association released their preseason rankings by class and by weight for the upcoming 2019-2020 campaign.

Four teams from the 580 Preps coverage area find themselves in their respective class’s Top 10 to start off. Washburn Rural is ranked second in 6A just behind Garden City, while Manhattan is eighth. The Junior Blues had eight wrestlers ranked individually, including the top ranked wrestlers at 113 (senior Bishop Murray) and 195 (senior Gavin Carter), while the Indians had six individuals ranked.

Holton is ranked sixth in class 4A, with four individuals ranked, led by 138-pound #2 Kolby Roush and 195-pound #2 Konnor Tannahill, both juniors. In the 3A class, Rossville ranks sixth, with 106-pound sophomore Zach Archer the preseason favorite at his weight class and 195-pound senior Kody Davoren ranked second in his weight class.

Other area wrestlers ranked #1 to start their seasons are Burlington senior Cael Johnson (4A 160) and Silver Lake junior Kai Allen (3A 126).

Girls wrestling is a KSHSAA-sanctioned sport for the first time ever for the 2019-2020 season and there are preseason girls rankings from the KWCA as well. Burlingame ranks fourth with 136-pound junior Gianna Culbert the favorite in her weight class. Junction City senior Elise Robinson and Washburn Rural sophomore Maranda Bell are one-two in the 191-pound class.
