Twenty-Four Area Girls Wrestlers Qualify For First KSHSAA State Tournament

Girls wrestlers across the state made history this Friday and Saturday as they competed for places in the first girls wrestling state championships to be sanctioned by KSHSAA.

Twenty-four wrestlers made the cut from the 580 Preps coverage area, with one wrestler from Junction City, one from Manhattan, and three from Emporia qualifying from the West regional in McPherson and wrestlers from Burlington, Free State, Jeff West, Mission Valley, Royal Valley, Shawnee Heights, Silver Lake, Topeka West, and Washburn Rural going through to state out of the East regional in Paola. Washburn Rural’s team won the East regional championship, with Burlington placing fourth.

The state tournament will be held in Salina on February 27th.
